As if that weren’t enough, SampleTank can be expanded with sound sets like Miroslav Philharmonik, SonikSynth, SampleMoog, and more. It’s a great ‘scattershot’ sampler engine that comes with an incredibly diverse library of sounds from every instrument category you might need. One of the best features of SampleTank is that it just comes with so… many… sounds. You can play using the Apple Camera USB kit and any class-compliant MIDI controller, or you can pair up a Bluetooth MIDI controller (although you’ll need to use another app to make the initial pairing, SampleTank does not handle this in-app). There’s an ultra-low latency mode that allows for a wonderfully desktop-class response from when you press a note to when you hear the sound. The 1.3 update is free to existing users.Using the touch screen keyboard is fun for setting up sounds and tweaking, but it’s when you pair up SampleTank with a MIDI controller that things really start to come alive. Owners of iRig MIDI will also get an exclusive sound set of 48 sounds for free simply by registering.
An additional 23 expansion sound packs are available for in-app purchase starting from as low as $4.99/3.99 each or all together for a competitive bundle price.
A free version of SampleTank is available and has all the functionality of SampleTank but comes with only 20 instruments. SampleTank 1.3 is a universal app for iPhone/iPod touch/iPad and is now available on the iTunes App store for only $19.99/15.99 with 136 instruments (4 of which are available after registration) distributed between 16 categories. 128 User Presets (update will not overwrite existing presets).The 1.3 update also now provides new Copy option in Export options and Export WAV files via File Sharing. Update includes 128 User Presets, Virtual MIDI support and other stability enhancements.
